An individual might need to update their Aadhaar details in case they need to change their basic demographic details such as name and address. Not just this, they might also need to update details including their email ID, mobile number, or their relationship status. Now, the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) provides online as well as offline processes for individuals looking to update to their Aadhaar cards. For both these processes, the individual would need to save their URN (Update Reference Number). In this article, we will guide you with:
Keep reading to know the definition of a URN and the ways to know your URN status, both online and offline.
Any online or offline changes made to an Indian citizen’s Aadhaar card are processed through a URN which helps determine the status of the request. The URN is automatically generated by the system once the individual submits a request for updating their Aadhaar details. Make sure to keep your URN safe since it is required for tracking the status of updating your Aadhaar details.
Here are the steps to be followed to track the status of your Update Reference Number online. Here are the instructions that you must follow to update your Aadhaar card online.
A URN is a 14-digit number that is written as a series of four, five, and five numbers respectively; separated by forward slashes.
If you want to keep things simple, you can check your URN from the same website that generated it. We have assumed, in this method, that you are already aware of your URN. Kindly follow the below-mentioned steps to proceed.
Kindly note: In case the status displayed reads ‘URN number invalid’, it means that UIDAI is yet to process your URN. Write to UIDAI at help@uidai.gov.in to resolve any concerns.
You can also check your URN by placing a phone call. Here is how you can do it.
If the IVR interaction is not preferable, you can also choose to know your URN status through your SRN. We recommend this step for people who do not know their URN while trying to check its status.
For those wondering about a traditional method of finding out about one’s URN, it is possible to do so by visiting an Aadhaar Card Enrolment Centre. Do not forget to carry your acknowledgment slip and URN. Once at the centre, request the official in charge for your URN update.
