Yes, NRIs can use UPI to send money in India instantly from their NRE or NRO accounts using any UPI-enabled app that supports international mobile numbers. This facility allows quick and secure peer-to-peer transfers, bill payments, and merchant transactions without delays, making it highly convenient for overseas Indians.
UPI is primarily a domestic (within India) payment platform. You cannot receive direct remittances from abroad via UPI. UPI is not currently designed for cross-border inward remittances.
As per NPCI guidelines, the daily UPI transaction limit for NRIs is ₹1 lakh. However, during the first 24 hours of UPI ID creation or registration of a new device, a cap of ₹5,000 is applicable. Post the initial period, you can transact up to ₹1 lakh per day subject to app or bank-specific restrictions.
NRIs can perform the following UPI transactions using their international mobile number:
UPI transactions are largely free of cost. IDFC FIRST Bank does not levy any additional charges on NRI UPI transactions. However, other banks or UPI apps used by NRIs may impose minor fees or limits depending on its internal policies. It is advisable to check with the respective app/bank before transacting.
No, NRIs do not need an Indian mobile number to access UPI services. With the latest NPCI guidelines, international mobile numbers from select UPI-supported countries can be linked to NRE or NRO accounts. Once linked, you can access all UPI features using your international number.
If your UPI transaction fails, the deducted amount is usually auto refunded to the original account. You can also raise a complaint via your UPI app or contact IDFC FIRST Bank’s customer support in case of any issues. Always ensure a stable internet connection while performing UPI transactions.
No, Aadhaar is not mandatory to use UPI for NRIs. You only need an active NRE or NRO account and your international number should be part of select UPI-supported countries.
To update your mobile number for UPI, you must first update it with your NRE/NRO account at IDFC FIRST Bank. Once updated, re-register on your UPI app with the new number. UPI will validate it and link it with your account for further use.
Yes. IDFC Bank mobile app does support UPI transactions for NRIs. Support availability may vary based on your country and device compatibility.
