Ek Prayaas Program
IDFC FIRST Bank designed and initiated Ek Prayas, a program nurturing early-stage rural NGOs that provide high-quality special needs services to children with developmental delays, including intellectual disabilities and autism. Intervening in rural India for children with developmental disabilities is crucial due to the lack of resources and services. Proper support ensures these children receive necessary education and healthcare, improving their quality of life and fostering community inclusion. The Ek Prayas program aims to bridge these gaps by providing accessible and affordable services, raising awareness, and supporting government initiatives, ultimately improving the lives of these children and their families. Ek Prayas uses innovative training to equip teachers with knowledge of developmental disabilities, both traditionally and virtually. Our goals are to raise autism awareness in rural areas and assist children on the spectrum. By establishing these centers, we bridge gaps in understanding and resources, ensuring children receive the support they need.
We support NGOs in establishing Ek Prayas centres supporting for three years, focusing on sustainability through a graduation model that emphasizes fundraising to sustain the centres beyond our funding period. We are currently working in Karnataka, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi with five different NGO partners:
- • Karnataka:
- 1. SANAKLPA in Davangere and Vijayanagara district
- 2. BDT in Gadag district
- • West Bengal: Bandhu Purulia in Purulia district
- • Uttar Pradesh: SPARC India in Bakshi Ka Talab, Lucknow district
- • Delhi: DCCW in Janakpuri (new centre established based on the needs and requests of parents, as many of them come from rural parts of India for their livelihood, working as tailors, auto-rickshaw drivers, etc.)
